Addressing Gender-Based Violence

Story: Lamisi’s Journey to Safety and Empowerment

Lamisi’s life in Zorko was overshadowed by years of relentless gender-based violence. Trapped in a cycle of abuse and despair, she faced severe psychological and financial hardships, feeling utterly alone and without hope. However, Pemcoa Foundation’s transformative GBV program stepped in, turning her life around.

The foundation provided vital support through counseling, legal assistance, and safe shelter for survivors. Lamisi took brave steps toward reclaiming her life by engaging in supportive counseling sessions and obtaining legal aid to secure a restraining order against her abuser. With a safe place to stay, she began to heal and rebuild her life.

Empowered and inspired by her recovery, Lamisi launched a small tailoring business, marking a new chapter of financial

independence and self-worth. Her resilience and newfound confidence led her to become an advocate for other survivors, sharing her story and supporting those still in need.

Lamisi’s journey underscores the profound impact of dedicated GBV services, demonstrating how targeted support can empower survivors, help them rebuild their lives, and foster a community of strength and solidarity.
