Gender Equality and Social Inclusion

“In Ghana, true progress towards gender equality requires not only addressing economic disparities but also dismantling the systemic barriers that perpetuate inequality, ensuring that every individual—regardless of gender, age, or background—has the opportunity to thrive and contribute to a more equitable society.”

At Pemcoa Foundation, we are committed to addressing the deep-seated inequalities that perpetuate poverty and vulnerability in Ghana, making Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GESI) central to our mission for systemic change. Despite some progress, Ghana remains off-track to meet SDG5 by 2030, so we focus on tailoring value chains and markets to better serve women, youth, and marginalized communities, ensuring that essential services are accessible as a fundamental right. We recognize the crucial roles Ghanaian women play in agriculture, energy, and water sectors but acknowledge their overrepresentation in low-paying, seasonal jobs and the added challenges they face in accessing resources and opportunities.

Our GESI-responsive approach is designed to make systems, structures, and markets more equitable by empowering individuals, creating economic opportunities that challenge traditional gender roles, and amplifying marginalized voices. We are dedicated to an intersectional strategy that explores power dynamics and social norms, ensuring inclusivity and engagement with diverse Ghanaians. Through initiatives that promote equality, empower youth, address fragile contexts, foster collaborative partnerships, and elevate underrepresented voices, we aim to drive sustainable, transformative change.

“True progress begins when we uplift every voice and bridge every gap. At Pemcoa Foundation, we believe that gender equality and social inclusion are not just ideals—they are the keys to unlocking a thriving and equitable future for all.”
